Torrevieja, situated next to the sea in the south of the Valencian community, is surrounded by two large natural saltwater lagoons which form the well known salterns of Torrevieja considered the biggest in Europe.

47 kms from Alicante, the provincial capital and about 35 kms from the airport of El Altet and San Javier, it stands out for its recent conversion in recent years into a first class tourist centre.

Its climate is dry and equable throughout the year with 360 days of sun and an average temperature of 18 degrees Celsius. Among its welcoming and attractive features are the magnificent beaches of fine sand, squares, walks, parks, gardens, and natural beauty spots, historical monuments dating back many centuries.

Torrevieja was the homeport of the largest fleet of sailing-boats in the Mediterranean, and preserves the last specimens of up to the middle of the present century.

As far as culture and festivals are concerned, everything related to Las Habaneras must be highlighted, these tropical, rhythmical songs, which have come via the salt trade with Cuba, in the voices of the Torrviejan sailors recount among their numerous exploits the creation of "La Habernera".

So every August the unrivalled Torrevieja swings for a week to the 2 by 4 rhythm through its Habaneras and polyphonic competitions, which attract hundreds of thousands of people who watch them live or on Television. The Fiestas are dedicated to the" Immaculada Conception" from 1st to 17th of December.

Torrevieja's Carnival each February is a prime example of joining in, joy and amusement in the streets. Holy week is an advertisement in itself, the processions thoughout the week converting the streets into rivers of religious penitence.

Torrevieja translated is "old" or "ancient tower" which is to be found on the north side of the town overlooking the sea. Originally a moorish defense and recently restored with gardens laid around, it is now a popular place for wedding couples to be photographed with the blue Mediterranean as a backdrop.

Torrevieja is renowned for its unique lifestyle combining a truly Spanish town with all the modern necessities of life. Just 30 min drive from two airports, this thriving all year round town is the perfect place to live. This is the area where Spanish people take their holidays, and many buy a second home here.

There is so much to do you will not get bored, sport for all ages, with four golf courses, four bowls clubs, several fully equipped gyms, plus sailing, scuba diving, football, darts, tennis and nightlife into the small hours.

The beaches carry the European blue flag ensuring pollution free bathing. Walking is a delight either along the long sandy beaches or around the conservation area surrounding the salt lakes.

Maybe you prefer to relax with a glass of wine and some tapas outside one of the hundreds of bars and restaurants. Torevieja boasts one of the largest street markets in Spain and every friday people come from miles around to pick up a bargain or to buy fruit and veg, fresh from the farm.

Each evening you will find the craft market where you can buy handmade jewellery or maybe some carved art from Africa or even some leather goods at a fraction of the price at home. This is located on the Torrevieja seafront. The indoor market is open daily for fish, fruit and veg and fresh meat , the indoor market is situated in the center of town.
